- “Wear Donald Duck Underpants.” This is a quotation from “The art of looking sideways” by Alan Fletcher. There is a point: “Choose a few childlike accoutrements to remind you of the irreverent, uninhibited joyous side of life.” So, build a sand castle or better yet a sand city. Turn your tongue blue with a popsicle. Dance in the rain (we’ve had enough). Fly a kite. Play Super Mario Brothers. Whatever, as long it makes you happy. Life is simply to important too be taken seriously.
- Graphic Design is everywhere. Quentin Newark said “Graphic design is the most universal of all the arts. It is all around us, explaining, decorating, identifying; imposing meaning on the world… Without graphic design’s process and ingredients – structure and organization, word and image, differentiation – we would have to receive all our information by the spoken word. We would enter another Dark Ages, a thousand years of ignorance, prejudice, superstition and very short lifespans.” How is your company utilizing this pervasive medium?
In the book, A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the words “DON’T PANIC” appear on the cover. The novel explains that this was partly because the device “looked insanely complicated” to operate, and partly to keep intergalactic travelers from, well, panicking. Matt insists on having the homescreen of iPhone read “DON’T PANIC” as well. Not because the device is complicated, but mostly to keep himself from panicking. If anyone else thinks they may need this little reminder, here’s a link to the “Don’t Panic” Wallpaper he made (right click or command click download linked file)
